Using Propecia to Fight Hair Loss
Propecia is the first and only FDA-approved pill demonstrated to treat male pattern hair loss on the vertex (top of head) and anterior mid-scalp area (middle front of head). There is not sufficient evidence that Propecia works for receding hairlines at the temples.Their website also states that most men will begin to see results after 3 to 12 months but that positive results will begin to dissipate after 12 months of non-use. If you use the product for 12 months or more with no positive results, then it is most likely that it does not work for you.It uses the active ingredient Finasteride, and it works to stop the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT) and also is used to help shrink the size of the prostate gland in men with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). The drug is taken in pill form and is to be used only by men. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should not come in contact with broken tablets, (I would stay away period) because it is in FDA pregnancy category X because it is very known to cause birth defects in male babies and that IS definitely worse than being bald yourself... Another thing you should be careful of is liver disease or liver problems. If this is a problem you have, a consultation with your doctor is definitely recommended as you may need a lower dosage or special attention during use of Propecia. But as with anything else I would just completely recommend you talking with your doctor before use, as it may be hard to be aware of all of the possible side effects that may affect you during use that can cause complications and side effects to anyone. In FDA reviewed tests 2 out of 3 patients using Propecia regrew or maintained the current hair they had where as the patients taking no treatment continued to lose their hair. The Propecia site is very open and honest and states that you generally cannot grow back all of the hair you have lost, but generally can grow some back, and stop current balding in its tracks. This product has many side effects and problems to be weary of but it can definitely show positive results. Propecia also seems to be very honest with their website, pictures and marketing. They tell you that it may not work, and they show pictures with barely any success or none at all. If I were to suggest one of the FDA approved products over the other, this would be the one. The Propecia website is much more open in letting you know that it does not work for everyone, but it has been proven to work. It shows the positive aspects but also outlines all of the health risks as well, something that is very respectable in my opinion. Also, when a company openly talks about the negative aspects of their product, it usually means they have a strong confidence within all of the positive sides of it. I feel that it seems more likely to work and the company is really out to help. I don't want to take anything away from Rogaine but this really seems to be the better of the two. |
